Kathmandu, June 7:

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party leadership came under intense pressure from the dissidents during the central working committee (CWC) meet to either “convene the national convention”

or “provide passage” to them to hold it by “keeping away.” “We have asked him (Pashupati SJB Rana) to fix the dates for the special national convention or keep out of the way,” said senior leader Kamal Thapa while coming out of the three-hour long meeting at the party office in Kupondole today. Thapa said that they asked Rana to come up with options if he sees it irrelevant to convene the convention. Party chairman Rana, however, insisted that the party would follow its statute. “Be assured, everything will go according to the party statute... We will not ignore the statute,” he said, refusing to divulge details on whether he would fix the dates for the special convention as demanded by 527 counsellors, including the CWC members. However, the party’s joint general secretary Khem Raj Pandit had doubts over the reliability of the signatures and said that the party was verifying it.
