Rs 10m spent on CA poll process in east
Biratnagar, October 11:
The Election Commission regional office in Biratnagar had spent over Rs 10 million for the preparation of the now-suspended election to constituent assembly.
The money was spent for carrying out various activities including voters’ education programmes, trainings and advertisement for the election.
The office had distributed over 100,000 invitation cards to the people in the region inviting them to compulsorily cast their votes, the EC regional office said.
“We had made provision of providing monthly salary of Rs 3,000 to each of the two thousand volunters,” EC regional chief, Maheshraj Timilsina, said, adding that some six million rupees were provided as salary for the volunteers.
Now that the Election Commission has put off all the preparations for the CA polls, the EC regional office has called back all staffers, including election officers and volunteers deployed in all 16 districts of eastern region. The regional office has also called all its officials to return all the election related documents.
The EC had begun deploying election officers on September 18.
Meanwhile, security base camps established for elections will remain there, DIG of the Armed Police Force in the eastern region, Thakur Mohan Shrestha, said adding: “The task of the security bodies is to provide security so this duty will continue as usual.”
