Rs 62.5 million Indian assistance for schools

KATHMANDU: The Government of India has agreed to provide Rs 26.5 million to Shree Laxmi Higher Secondary School in Jhapa's Baniyani and Rs 36 million to Shree Sharada Higher Secondary School in Khotang's Kharpa.

The Indian Embassy here signed two separate memoranda of understanding with concerned District Development Committees and beneficiary organisations on Monday.

Issuing a press release yesterday, the embassy said the projects would be implemented as small development projects under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme.

The schools were chosen to be assisted for their imparting education to a large number of students for decades. The assistance will be utilised in constructing new buildings and upgrading the infrastructure in the schools, according to the press statement.

The projects will be implemented by concerned DDCs while separate oversight committees comprising representatives of the school management and local development authorities will ensure their effective and timely completion, read the statement of the embassy.
