KATHMANDU, MAY 20
Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak on Monday said the Right to Information (RTI) is essential for promoting transparency and ensuring good governance.
Speaking at an interaction with ministerial-level information officers organised by the National Information Commission, Lekhak highlighted RTI as a fundamental right enshrined in the Constitution.
"It is our duty to provide information, and the citizens' right to receive it," he said. However, he noted that information related to personal privacy, national security, defence, foreign relations, and diplomacy may be withheld.
The minister stressed that information mandated by law must be disclosed, and if any request is denied, institutions must clearly state the reasons for non-disclosure.
