Rukum folks hit by typhoid, fever

RUKUM: Not even a month has elapsed after the deadly diarrhoea claimed many lives, the district dwellers have now been suffering from viral fever and typhoid nowadays.

Health officials said the number of such patients crossed 100 as of today.

According to them, many typhoid and fever patients have been thronging the health centrres every day seeking check-up and treatment.

More than 75 people were killed in the diarrhoea epidemic in the district.

Bhim Bahadur Chand, Simrutu health post in-charge, said, “A large number of fever and typhoid patients have been coming here daily.’’ He attributed the surging number of such patients to the change in the weather pattern. The influx of patients is not only recorded in the government-run health facilities, private medical halls and clinics too are crowed.

Motiram Gharti, owner of a medical hall in the district headquarters, informed that on an average five typhoid patients were visiting his medical hall daily.

Among others, local residents in the eastern VDCs of Mahat, Dol and Jhakri have been affected due to the diseases. The number of sick people in Dol VDC is incredibly high, local health workers said.

Khadka said their attempts to treat the patients were not effective due to the local residents’ carelessness to follow their advice.
