DHANGADI, FEBRUARY 28

A runoff election has been set for the post of Nepali Congress' Kailali president in party's 14th general conference in the district.

A second phase of the election was set after no candidate garnered more than 50 per cent votes in the first phase of the poll. In the first round of election for NC's Kailali president, 2,485 votes were cast. A candidate should get at least 1,243 votes to win the post for the party's district president.

According to the final vote count, Prakash Bam secured 1,169 votes, Narayan Datta Bhatta got 1,072 votes, while Ram Bahadur Kalel got 197 votes. Bam and Bhatta will vie for the president's post in the second round of voting.

Both Bhatta and Bam are from the establishment side.

Kalel had contested from the rival faction. The runoff has been set for March 2.
