Rupandehi sawmill owner shot dead in broad daylight
KATHMANDU: A sawmill owner was shot dead at Dhekabar in Devdaha Municipality of Rupandehi district on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Basanta Paudel (38) aka Balu of Devdaha Municipality-2 in Rupandehi district.
Police said two unidentified persons riding a motorbike opened fire on Paudel and fled towards Rohini Khola at around 11:00 am on Friday. Paudel was sitting at the mill when he was shot, said police. Critically injured Paudel, who was hit in the chest and head, breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Lumbini Zonal Hospital.
He was son of local UML leader Nilkanth Paudel. Gangster Manoj Pun, who has been absconding since his gang allegedly gunned down CPN-UML-aligned Youth Association Nepal Rupandehi chair Durga Paudel last year, called local mediapersons from Malaysia and owned up the murder.
He said Paudel was killed to avenge incarceration of his aides in a murder case.

KATHMANDU: A man was shot dead by a group of unidentified persons in a sawmill at Dhekabar in Devdaha Municipality of Rupandehi district today.
The deceased has been identified as the sawmill owner Basanta Paudel (38) aka Bablu of Devdaha Municipality-2 in Rupandehi district.
A group of unidentified persons appeared out of nowhere and fired several shots at Paudel from a pistol, critically injuring him in his chest, at the mill at around 11:00 am today, according to District Police Office, Rupandehi. Paudel was sitting at the mill when he was shot, said police.
Injured Paudel was rushed to the Butwal-based Lumbini Zonal Hospital where he succumbed to injuries, said the DPO.
Meanwhile, the DPO has undertaken the investigation while a police team has been deployed to the incident site in search of clues.
