Rupandehi, Nawalparasi tense after UML leader's murder

NAWALPARASI: Tension ran high in two districts of western Tarai - Rupandehi and Nawalparasi on late Monday afternoon after the CPN-UML-aligned Youth Association Nepal's Rupandehi district chairman Durga Tiwari was shot dead.

UML cadres have obstructed the East-West Highway at various points in the districts.

Meanwhile, they also staged a demonstration in Butwal and other cities demanding action against the culprits.

Meanwhile, the UML Rupandehi district chairman Shiva Subedi said the party had called the YAN leadership to discuss next steps.

"Everyone is infuriated here and a frightening situation has created," he said, "But, we cannot stop our young cadres (from demonstrations) unless the administration nabs the culprits."

Meanwhile, the Butwal Area Police Office Chief, DSP Mukunda Marasini, said the shooters had not been identified till 7 pm today.
