KATHMANDU, MAY 15

A delegation led by Batu Khasikov, Head of Kalmykia under the Russian Federation, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at his official residence in Baluwatar today.

According to the Prime Minister's Secretariat, the meeting focused on various aspects of the longstanding friendly relations between Nepal and Russia.

During the meeting, Khasikov extended an invitation to Prime Minister Oli to attend the International Buddhist Conference scheduled to be held in Kalmykia in September this year.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli requested Khasikov to convey an invitation, on behalf of Nepal, to the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, for an official visit to Nepal.

He also urged Khasikov to relay his message to President Putin, requesting that Nepali nationals not be recruited into the Russian army, given the absence of any military agreement between the two countries.

In response, Khasikov assured that such recruitment of Nepali citizens would not take place going forward.

The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Nepal, Alexey Novikov, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, were also present on the occasion.
