Safe shelter for victims of violence effective in Bajura

BAJURA: Safe shelter built for the support of women victimised in violence has become effective in Martadi, headquarters of Bajura district.

The safe home, which started its operation in May 2016, has already provided shelter to 244 women, including 72 children, the safe home informed.

The home has given aid to 106 women or children who lack resources, 21 rape victims, 8 child marriage victims, 9 harassments victims, and 3 trafficking victims, said psychologist Santoshi Dani Thapa, adding that the shelter also served 59 victims of polygamy, 20 victims of physical violence, 18 victims of mental abuse.

The victims taking shelter in the homeĀ are sent to various authorities and agencies including hospital, police, community police, ward offices to solve their problems and provide justice.

The home also provides victims with skill-based and income-generating training.

The safe shelter is being managed by Apeiron, an International Non-Government Organisation (INGO) via UNFPA with support from Badimalika, Budhiganga Municipality and various Non-Government Organisations, field coordinator Radha Acharya said.
