Salt depot to be set up at Rugin VDC

Bajura, March 2

The Salt Trading Corporation is all set to establish a permanent salt depot in remote Rugin VDC of Bajura.

Debendra Lamichhane, Chief District Officer, said STC Zonal Office, Dhangadi had written to the District Administration Office to establish the depot in the VDC.

A member of STC staff, Jaya Ram Regmi,  was deployed in Kawadi Depot to make necessary preparations to operate the depot soon. “The depot will start operating in a few days,” he informed.

With the establishment of the depot, as much as 650 quintal salt will be added to this fiscal. Keshab Prasad Pandey, STC Deputy General Manager in Dhangadi, said the depot was being established as locals of Rugin, Badhu and Bichhayan VDCs were compelled to buy salt at a high price. “The locals were compelled to pay Rs 50 per kg earlier,” he said.

He informed that a decision was taken to establish depots in Maure of Kuldevmandau and Dhulachaur of Badu VDC in the next fiscal.

It is reported that the government decided to establish the salt depot in Kawadi after locals submitted a memorandum to Minister Dipak Bohora seeking supply.

Salt Rice Protest Committee Chairman Mangal Bahadur Malla said that Food-first Information and Action Network Nepal said that the locals in coordination with FIAN members had reached the ministry with a delegation demanding supply.
