Samyukta Madhes Morcha threatens to launch stir

Biratnagar, December 30:

Agitating Samyukta Madhes Morcha, formed by the Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum and the Sadbhawana Party, today threatened to stage decisive phase of agitation from January 19 at Lahan in Siraha district, if the government did not fulfil their demands.

At a press meet organised by the Madhes Media Mission in Biratnagar, senior leaders of the Morcha said SMM was formed with the view to mounting pressure on the government to act on Madhesis’ demands.

Chairman of SP, Rajendra Mahato, said, “We are making efforts to include the armed groups staging agitation in Tarai in our peaceful agitation.” Mahato said the third amendment to the interim constitution had failed to address the Madhes problems.

The SMM has been demanding early implementation of the 22-point agreement reached with MJF. MJF chairman Upendra Yadav said the government was not serious towards Madhesis’ problems and had not done any groundwork to hold the CA polls by mid-April.

Mahato also doubted government’s seriousness to hold polls. Mahato said, “If the elections are held, we will contest.”
