Kathmandu, April 1:

Constituent Assembly election is just a few days away and the political parties are busy campaigning. In many parts of the country people have listened to them, but they have not been successful in alluring the voters of Pukhulachi VDC in Sankhu in the outskirts of Kathmandu district. Forget alluring, people of this VDC in fact doubt if the election will be held on the stipulated date.

Gambheer Shrestha, a hardware engineering student in Pukhulachi VDC ward no 9, said that his villagers are no more excited about the election. “The major political parties’ arrogant nature and the clashes during election campaigning have hurt so many people. Hence, it has made us think twice if election will be held on the stipulated date,” he said. “Though the political parties are campaigning in full speed we fear for our security because the parties are quarreling to gain their positions in various parts of the country,” Shrestha said.

Narayan Gopal Shrestha, a shopkeeper at ward no 8, said that the major political parties, new political parties as well as the independent candidates visit them frequently seeking votes.

He said, “The election campaign of new political parties are not that influential,” adding, “The major political parties are also ignoring the remote areas surrounding Pukhulachi, which lack wide roads to drive their vehicles.” That’s why people are not much excited about the election, he clarified.

Mana Maya Lawat, a 45-year-old woman in Pukhulachi VDC-5, said that though many political parties have already visited their village, she did not paid attention towards their campaigning. She said that she was unaware about the election and its importance as none of them explained her about it. But she assured that she would go for voting. She said, “I don’t know the total number of political parties and their candidates but I will vote for the party whom my husband suggests me to vote.”

Altogether 31 candidates, 21 from the different political parties and 10 independent candidates are contesting from Pukhulachi VDC that falls on Constituency no 2 in Kathmandu District. Madhav Kumar Nepal from CPN-UML, Deepak Prasad Kuikel

from Nepali Congress, Deepak Mayar Shrestha from Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Jhakku Prasad Subedi from CPN- Maoist are among the candidates with tough competition in this constituency.
