Saptari entrepreneurs demand compensation for loss during UDMF-police clash

RAJBIRAJ: Entrepreneurs of Saptari have demanded a compensation for the damage incurred to their businesses due to a clash between cadres of the United Democratic Madhesi Front and security personnel during the CPN-UML-hosted Mechi-Mahakali Campaign in Saptari.

Buildings, machinery, equipment, raw materials and ready-made goods were damaged at the campaign venue, Gajendra Narayan Singh Industrial Estate, on March 6, which incurred the loss of more than Rs 5 million, claimed the entrepreneurs.

The businesspersons said they drew the attention of Chief District Officer Krishna Bahadur Katawal to this issue before few days, but to no avail.

They said that they were compelled to shut down their businesses for last few weeks because of the huge damage caused by the clash, said the Jyoti Plastic Industry proprietor Saroj Kumar Yadav.

"There is no any condition to resume the industry. The compensation has not yet been received. How many days can we pay the rent shutting down our business" questioned Yadav.

Meanwhile, CDO Katawal said that necessary initiatives were taken to carry out a technical investigation into the case so as to calculate the loss. Likewise, a clear decision should be taken on who would be responsible to pay the compensation, he added.
