Saptari records one more cold-related death

RAJBIRAJ: A 62-year-old man was found dead in his bed this morning at Saptakoshi Municipality-1 in Saptari district.

It is presumed that the local Arjun Pokhrel died due to hypothermia, said Dhruba Kumar Shrestha, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office in Saptari.

The body has been brought to Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital, Rajbiraj for post-mortem examinations.

Cold wave and biting cold has made life difficult in the district for the past one week. So far 19 people have died due to extreme winter conditions in the district, however, only seven deaths have been confirmed by the police attributing to the cold.

Similarly, a woman sustained severe burn injuries when her saree caught fire while she was warming herself near a bonfire.

The injured has been identified as Sanju Mehata (35) of Krishnashawaran Rural Municipality-2 in the district.

Her lower body has been burnt by the fire, police said.

She was referred to the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan from after receiving emergency treatment at the Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital.
