Saptari tense, one dead in Bhardaha as police open fire at violent protesters
SAPTARI: One person died while half a dozen of bandh enforcers sustained injuries when they clashed with security personnel at Bhardaha in Saptari on Tuesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Rajib Raut. Police had opened fire when the cadres United Madhesi Front tried to vandalise and set the traffic post ablaze, according to the locals.
The injured were rushed to Biratnagar for treatment, according to Ganga Prasad Shah, a local.
Police had fired 32 of tear gas shells and 17 bullets to take situation under control, according to witnesses.
Tension flared up in Bhardaha as the cadres demonstrated against the administration in the district headquarters, Rajbiraj.
Transportation was halted in Lahan, adjacent to Bhardaha due to the shutdown.
Police have arrested about six protesters while they were pelting stones at the vehicles in Rupani in the district.
