SSB probing fatal shooting on Nepal-India border: India

KATHMANDU: India has said its Sashastra Seema Bal has initiated an enquiry on an alleged shooting incident in which a Nepali man was killed  on Thursday in Punarbas Municipality of Kanchanpur district on Nepali side.

Spokesperson at the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Gopal Baglay, issued a statement and said ,"Government of Nepal is being requested through diplomatic channels to share post-mortem and forensic reports to facilitate the process."

Earlier, on Thursday, Embassy of India in Kathmandu denied that the SSB opened fire on Nepali people as claimed by media.

Baglay also informed that officials of the neighbouring districts--Kanchanpur of Nepal and Lakhimpur Khiri of India--held a meeting to discuss the issue and made an agreement to maintain peace and order.

In a statement issued late night yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had condemned the killing of Govinda Gautam.

It said the Government of Nepal had already taken up the matter with serious concern at higher diplomatic level of the Government of India with a demand to investigate into the incident and bring the guilty to justice.
