Kathmandu, May 30:
The Supreme Court today, on technical grounds, postponed its hearing in a contempt of court case that was filed five years ago against the Speaker of the House of Representatives Tara Nath Ranabhat and general secretary of the CPN-UML Madhav Nepal. A division bench of Justices Ram Nagina Singh and Paramananda Jha deferred the date of the hearing as the Supreme Court cause list mentioned Tara Nath Ranabhat’s name as Tara Nath Ranamagar.
The bench said that it was improper to hear the case when the name of a defendant was maintained inaccurately. The bench said it would hear the case on June 14. The apex court is examining whether the leaders had defied court orders while discussing in the parliament regarding the decision that held RPP leader Dr Prakash Chandra Lohani as the member of the lower house of parliament for constituency 1 in Nuwakot district and from where UML’s Rajendra Prakash Lohani was elected in the 1999 election.
