SC defers hearing of Silwal's case on Aug 31

KATHMANDU: The next hearing on the writ petition filed by DIG of Nepal Police Nawaraj Silwal over the matter of appointment of IGP is to be held on coming August 31.

A full bench of the apex court led by Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli designated the new date to continue hearing on the case after it could not conclude on Thursday.

Advocates Satish Chandra Kharel, Ashish Adhikari and Subas Acharya had pleaded on behalf of DIG Silwal while attorney general Raman Kumar Shrestha advocated on behalf of the defendant, the government in this case.

DIG Silwal had filed the writ on April 12, 2017 challenging the decision of the government to promote his colleague DIG Jaya Bahadur Chand to the post of IGP of Nepal Police.

He followed it up with another petition after the government decided to promote DIG Prakash Aryal to the post of IGP, after the apex court nullified the earlier decision to promote DIG Chand.
