KATHMANDU, MAY 15
The Supreme Court has issued an interlocutory order, staying the Election Commission's decision to register a new political party following the split of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal.
A single bench presided by Justice Binod Sharma ordered the Election Commission to halt the registration process of the JSP formed under the leadership of Ashok Rai.
The SC has summoned both the Election Commission and the petitioner to appear before the court for further discussion, as it seeks a logical conclusion at a time when some of the Commission's decisions have been enforced while others are pending. Various decisions were made by the Commission on May 6.
Objecting to the Election Commission's decision to authenticate Rai's faction as a political party, JSP Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav filed a writ petition, demanding the invalidation of Rai-led party.
On May 6, the Election Commission granted authenticity to leader Rai's application for party legitimacy.
