KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 25

The Supreme Court issued a show cause notice to Nepal Police for seeking to recruit 1,971 police personnel.

A single bench of Justice Ananda Mohan Bhattarai also ordered both sides to present their arguments on Sunday when the apex court will decide whether it should issue an interim order in the case, according to Advocate Raksharam Harijan who pleaded on behalf of Madhes Province.

The court also attached a case filed by Tharu Kalyankari Sabha wherein the petitioner argued that the Nepal Police placed adverts without allotting quotas for Tharu group. The SC has issued a temporary stay order in that case.

Chief Attorney of Madhes Province Dipendra Jha, who pleaded on behalf of Madhes Province government argued before the court that the federal government violated Section 20 (1) and (2) of the Federal Police Adjustment Act which stipulated that the federal government can recruit police only after adjusting police force between the Nepal Police and provincial police. He said that the adverts placed by Nepal Police on 26 November 2021seeking recruitment of police also violated schedule 6 of the constitution that stipulated that state police administration and law and order were under the jurisdiction of provincial governments.

Advocate Mohna Ansari also pleaded on behalf of Madhes Province.
