KATHMANDU, JUNE 2

The Supreme Court has issued an interim order to not immediately implement the directive to deploy individuals charged with violating traffic rules as traffic volunteers on the road.

On Sunday, a single bench of Judge Til Prasad Shrestha issued the interim order to halt the directive issued by Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane.

Krishna BK, Akash Bhatt, and seven others filed a writ petition at the apex court challenging the legality of the Home Minister's directive to deploy traffic volunteers on the roads.

It is noteworthy that on May 28, Home Minister Lamichhane instructed traffic police agencies to mobilize those who violate traffic rules as traffic volunteers. He also directed that women traffic officers be excused from road duties during menstruation.
