SC rejects Sanjay Sah's plea for release

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday rejected the release of Janakpur bomb blast suspect and former lawmaker Sanjay Sah.

A division bench led by Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha rejected Sah's plea for release.

Sah who had been elected to the Constituent Assembly from Dhanusha Constituency-4 was accused of his involvement in the 2012 Janakpur bomb blast, which had killed five people.

He was arrested for his role in the blast on April 30, 2012. After the arrest, Sah had appealed to the Dhanusha District Court for his release, stating he was innocent and had no links in the fatal incident.

The District Court, however, had quashed his appeal. Sah then filed the petition at the Appellate Court Janakpur, but the Court upheld the District Court order to carry out investgations while keeping him in judicial custody.

He had then moved to the apex court.

With the Supreme Court verdict, Sah will remain in custody.

Leader of the Sadbhawana Party, Sah, in his statement had argued that the charges against him were false and intended to destry his political career.
