SC verdict on Katwal row soon

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has said it will issue a final verdict on a petition against the reinstatement of former Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Rookmangud Katawal by President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, two weeks later.

The Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’-led government had sacked Katawal while Dr Yadav, in the capacity of the head of state, had reinstated him.

Five months after the completion of hearing on the case, a division bench of Justices Rajendra Prasad Koirala and Damodar Prasad Sharma announced the verdict date.

“We will issue the verdict in two weeks,” Justice Koirala told lawyers. The justices have set one week’s time for the lawyers to submit their written argument.

The bench also directed advocates Raman Kumar Shrestha and Yuba Raj Sangroula to conclude their argument tomorrow.
