The shortage of foods in the extreme western region of Nepal is not a new matter. But since the supply of gas in the region has been stooped, there has been created a big shortage of gas here.

When the electric transmitter of Bheri Gas (BG) filling stattion, Kohalpur, was destroyed by Maoist rebels, the supply of the gas totally stopped.

According to authorized dealers of Mahendranagar and Dhangadhi base, the supply of gas has totally been stopped in the market for last ten days. Likewise, the dealers of BG for Mahendranagar namely Bishnu Prasad Kharel and Hemraj Joshi say that even though they have already made an advance payment to the company, they are yet to be provided the gas. In other hand, the consumers are not ready to listen them, so they are compelled to close the shops.

Meanwhile, an employee of BG at Kohalpur base, says that they have been supplying the gas to mid-western and extreme western parts of the country importing it from Barauni of Bihar state of India. But after the electric transmitter of the gas company was destroyed, there is a problem in filling gas. This is a reason behind the discontinuity in its supply.

At a same time Food Corporation, Dhangadhi, states that there is shortage of foods in the region because a large quantity of food has been robbed by the Maoists and rest of the food has been stored in the district headquarter due to security problem.

Presently, the people of Darchula, Baitadi, Bajura, Bajhang, Achham and Doti districts situated in extreme western region of the country are worried why the government is not serious about the shortage of food and gas.
