School building built with Chinese aid

Lamjung, October 30

A new building of Bhairab Secondary School has been constructed at Mohoriya of Rainash Municipality with financial assistance of the Chinese government in Lamjung.

Construction of the new building has elated students studying at the school. Students had been studying in makeshift tents ever since the earthquakes of 2015 destroyed the school building.

Rainash Municipality Mayor Singh Bahadur Thapa said the building construction was completed one year before deadline.

“Manpower and technology were brought from China for the construction. The Chinese company entrusted with the contract completed the construction one year before deadline,” Mayor Thapa stated.

In the wake of the deadly earthquakes of 2015, China had announced it would build 10 model schools in the country and two schools were chosen from the mountain region. Lamjung’s Bhairab Secondary School and Sindhupalchowk’s Ratnarajya Secondary School were selected from the region under school reconstruction project.

Mayor Thapa said he would take the initiative to launch technical and professional education at the school shortly. Currently, the school has more than 300 students.

The newly-constructed building has 17 classrooms, and rooms for library, lab, music class, computer lab, cafeteria, teachers’ office and head teacher’s office. The school also has a playground and a parking lot.
