School upgradation in limbo in Bara

Bara, May 14

The plan to upgrade a school in Bara district has failed with donors failing to provide their promised contribution.

Nepal Rastriya Secondary School of Jaitapur had organised a Mayayagya to raise fund in order to upgrade the school in 2013.

The project, however, has been in limbo though years have passed since the event as most of the donors failed to make good on their promise to give assistance totaling to around Rs 4.1 million rupees.

The secondary school plans to upgrade into a plus-two level school.

Earlier, the school had registered itself as a plus-two level school after taking the required amount of loan with the hope of getting the pledged amount later.

“We were excited because the donors had pledged a huge amount. So, we took a loan and registered as a plus-two level school. As the donors have defaulted, we are in a real fix now,” said school accountant Jagadish Mahato.

According to Mahato, the school has yet to receive Rs 3.1 million of the total pledged amount. “We took a loan of nine lakh rupees on high interest rate. In this situation, we can neither pay the large interest amount nor are we able to run classes of the upgraded level,” said school Principal Dipendra Prasad Chaudhary.
