Schools cry for metal rooftops

HETAUDA: Seventy-two schools in Makawanpur district have asked the District Development Committee (DDC) for metal roofing.

Seven primary schools, eight lower secondary schools, six secondary schools, including higher secondary schools, have sought the assistance in their failure to manage it by themselves. Most of the school buildings are under construction.

As roofs of some of the old school buildings leak, the schools have been running classes in temples, private houses and public buildings.

Though the locals manage for the construction, they knock on the DDC for the roof. Local Development Officer Bhuwan Prakash Bista said they would be able to assist only some primary schools built by the community.

The LDO said his office had bought corrugated zinc sheets for two million rupees for the purpose, which would be distributed after an all-party meeting.
