Scores attend Saptari firing victims' funeral procession

RAJBIRAJ: Scores of sympathisers on Saturday attended the funeral procession of five men who were killed in a police firing in Maleth of Saptari district five days ago.

Bodies of the victims had been brought to Rajbiraj from the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences this morning.

The bodies had been kept at the local Gajendra Narayan Chok for four hours for final tributes before the procession.

Top leaders of the United Democratic Madhesi Front, including Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav, Sadbhawana Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato and Nepal Sadbhawana Party Chairman Anil Kumar Jha had taken part in the procession from Rajbiraj of Saptari.

Thousands of cadres and followers had taken the rally to Hanumannagar, Bhardaha, Kanchanpur, Rupani, Kalyanpur, Kadamaha, Lahan, before returning to Rajbiraj.

UDMF Saptari district coordinator Dinesh Kumar Yadav said the bodies would be handed over the concerned families on Sunday and the final rites would be carried out on the same day.

Meanwhile, issuing a press statement today, the UDMF said it withdrew the indefinite shutdown in the district called on Monday.

Central UDMF leaders are scheduled to organise a press meet in Rajbiraj tomorrow to announce next protest programmes.
