Screening for cancer begins in Mahottari

MAHOTTARI: The Binayatara Foundation has begun providing medical service for cancer patients in Ramgopalpur of Mahottari district.

With the joint initiative of US-based Foundation, Binayatara Cancer Trust Nepal and Ramgopalpur Municipality, screening for cancer began here with an aim of constructing a highly-equipped cancer treatment centre in few years.

The centre is expected to put an end for people in the eastern region to go to Bharatpur or Kathmandu for cancer treatment, chairperson of the Trust Dr Rakesh Shah said. He further added that it would be developed into a community hospital.

Meanwhile, the Out Patient Department (OPD) service has begun from the rented building, the trust will be constructing its own building soon, for the purpose of which the Municipality has donated 52 ropanis of land.

The foundation has targeted to complete the building and install the necessary equipment within the next four years.

It has been expected that it would cost more than Rs 700 million to complete the project.
