Search for missing minors in Saptakoshi River still under way

Rajbiraj, July 7

The whereabouts of the three missing children, who jumped into the Saptakoshi River along with their mother, is still unknown.

A mother, with her four children, had tried to commit suicide over a minor dispute with her husband Taiyab Rayan in Kankalini Municipality, Saptari, on Friday night. Police said Rukshana Khatun, 31, of Govindapur in Golbazaar Municipality had jumped into the river, along with her four children. She jumped into the flooded river with her three sons and a daughter.

Police said Rukshana and one of her sons were rescued from the river while three children were still missing and they had not be able to find them till this evening.

Roshana and her four-year-old son Mohammad Tahasin were rescued yesterday. But Mohammad Aslam, 3, Mohammad Tasmin, 11, and two-year-old daughter Ajameri Khatun are still missing, said police.

A police team led by DSP Mukesh Mishra, along with divers, was deployed to search for the missing children on Friday. According to Saptari District Police Office, the police team continued the search operation till this evening, but didn’t find any clue of the missing children.

DSP Mishra said that it was very difficult to carry out the search operation as the water current was strong in the river.
