Jhapa, January 18

The District Election Spot and Polling Centre Recommendation Committee formed under the coordination of Chief District Officer Shrawan Kumar Timsina has started searching for possible voting centres for the upcoming mid-term polls in Jhapa.

CDO Timsina said the committee has been inspecting prospective polling booths and voting centres at Birtamod, Arjundhara, Damak, Shivasatasi municipalities and Kamal and Bahradasi rural municipalities in Jhapa.

He said the committee comprised chiefs of political parties, chiefs of security agencies, election officer, chiefs of municipalities and rural municipalities. Earlier, there were around 283 polling booths and 692 voting centres in Jhapa.

CDO Timsina said that some voting centres and polling booths might be added for the elections if they were to be held, depending upon the verdict of the Supreme Court. He said discussion was under way among political parties and local levels to request the authority concerned to increase the voting centres.
