Season’s first summit on Mt Nuptse

KATHMANDU: At least two climbers successfully scaled Mt Nuptse in the Everest region becoming the season's first team to climb the 7,861-metre mountain this afternoon.

According to Iswari Paudel, Managing Director at Himalayan Guides Pvt. Ltd, British climber Timothy John Mosedale along with Dorjee Gyalgen Sherpa stood atop the mountain at 5:15 pm. “The team scaled the mountain fixing ropes to the summit point,” he added.

At least 37 climbers representing three different teams have obtained climbing permits for Mt Nuptse this spring season, Rameshwar Niraula, an official at the Department of Tourism, said. With the opening of a summit route, other climbers will make their final summit push in the next few days, he said.

According to Paudel, Timothy will also attempt to climb Mt Everest and Mt Lhotse in the next few days. Sherpa had already climbed Mt Everest twice in the last week, he added.
