Security meet begins in Pokhara

POKHARA: Chief District Officers, chiefs of National Investigation Department, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force of all 16 districts of the Western Region have congregated here in Pokhara to participate in the regional security conference that began today.

According to secretary at the Home Ministry Dr Govinda Kusum, the conference was organised so as to inform chiefs of all the security and administrative bodies about the Special Security Strategy that was recently introduced by government.

Inaugurating the conference, Home Minister Bhim Rawal said the strategy was introduced as per the government's policy and programme.

The home minister reiterated that the strategy was not targeted at specific political parties, groups, communities or individuals, but with objective of assuring peace and security to the public.

"Let's not doubt over the intention of the government as it is solely aimed at establishing peace and assuring security to people who deserve them," he urged.

The home minister warned that the government would not spare those involved in unlawful activities and vandalism and arson in the name of political movement. He also claimed the peace and security situation in the country had been improved due to the security personnel ever since the formation of the new government led by the CPN-UML.

He blamed that the UCPN-Maoist has been breaching the commitments made during the Comprehensive Peace Accord and other subsequent agreements.

In the function, the state minister for home affairs Rijaban Ansari revealed that the Special Security Strategy was prompted by realising the fact that there would be no achievements until the people would feel secured.

As per the government's strategy, the security personnel will be mobilised to effectively control the road obstruction, abduction and serious type of organised crimes, improve the security in the Tarai and other districts.

On the occasion, CDOs of all 16 western districts apprised the ministers of the security situation of their respective districts.

Such conference had already been concluded in Biratnagar, Hetauda, Kathmandu and Dhangadhi while similar event is scheduled to be held in Nepalgunj within a few days.
