Security meeting of province 4 and 5 for upcoming polls, held in Pokhara

POKHARA: The election commissioner Ishwori Prasad Paudel has urged the security bodies to remain alert during the upcoming House of Representatives and State Assemblies elections in province number 4 and 5 slated for November 26 and December 7 respectively.

Commissioner Paudel said so while addressing a security meeting held in the Lake City on Friday. "Security is like oxygen, life will be in peril if oxygen lowers to unprecedented level at any times," Paudel added.

He aslo urged the security bodies to keep special attention on maintaining peace and stability for holding elections in a fair, free and fearless manner.

During the meeting, the existing security condition of the province number 4 and 5 and strategies were discussed.

Chief District Officers of 17 districts in the provinces, Election Commissioners, Officials from the Home Affairs pointed to the threat posed by the Netra Bikram Chand led party and political parties showcasing their power as main threats.

Election Commissioners Paudel also urged the security bodies to step up vigilance in the bordering districts to foil any untoward activities as province number 4 and 5 are holding both the House of Representatives and State Assemblies elections on November 26 and December 7 respectively on two phases.

"There is widespread belief in winning elections by using muscle power and money at anycost, these challenges should be addressed and stopped," Commissioner Paudel stressed.

He also urged the security bodies to step up vigilance and keep close eyes on the violation of election code of conduct as Election Commission can't reach to far flung areas in the provinces.

Similarly, the Chief District Officers urged the security bodies to maintain coordination during the elections.

Meanwhile, Home Affairs Secretary Krishna Mohan Sapkota urged the security forces to remain alert to thwart any incidents as there are signs that such incidents could possibly happen during the elections.
