The Society of Economic Journalists' of Nepal aims to increase the presence of economic journalists in the media across the country and to promote longterm important initiatives for enhancing their skills.

The executive committee elected from the 22nd annual general assembly and convention of SEJON assumed office recently. Newly-elected Chairperson of the SEJON Janardan Baral said training and other programmes would be conducted for the capacity building of the members. "The first objective of the executive committee is to increase the capacity of the members and plans to promote long-term programmes in collaboration with universities to encourage more and more economic journalists in the media," he added.

Bhim Prasad Gautam, the outgoing chair of SEJON, said that the new executive committee should give continuity to research activities while maintaining the dignity of SEJON. He handed over the post to newly elected chair Baral and briefed him about the various activities being carried out by the organisation.

Janardan Baral, chief of the economic bureau of Naya Patrika Dainik, was elected as chair in the election held on September 3. Sujan Oli has been elected as vice-president, Bhagwat Bhattarai as general secretary, Himal Poudel as secretary and Laxmi Sapkota as treasurer.
