Septuagenarian Giri passes 12th grade, creates headlines again

SOLUKHUMBU: The 76-year-old Kaji Bahadur Giri has made the headlines as he successfully completed his grade 12.

Giri, at the age of 69, had passed his School Level Certificate (SLC) examinations.

A permanent resident of Pabai-6 in Solukhunbu, Giri enrolled at the Birendra Jyoti Higher Secondary School in Sotang as an eighth grader in 2006 and he went on to pass the SLC from the same school in 2009.

"I started school after realising the importance of education. Though it was difficult for me to adjust in the initial days, it gradually became easier later," he shared.

He said he financed his study through the elderly allowance given by the government.

Inspired by him, many elderly men, women and daughter-in-laws in the surrounding villages have started following suit.

When asked about his future plan, Giri said he was preparing to continue his Bachelor's level at the Sotang Multiple Campus.
