Severe cold shuts community schools for a week

Siraha, January 7

With life hit badly due to cold wave and fog and the mercury dipping in the past few days, community schools have been shut for a week in Siraha from today.

The number of students attending school had declined sharply due to the cold wave for the past two weeks in the Tarai region.

“We decided to shut the 233 community schools in the district effective from today till January 14 due to adverse weather,” said District Education Officer Mahendra Mahato.

However, private and boarding schools of the district will remain open in spite of the weather. “As we are conducting examinations, it is not feasible to shut the schools,” clarified PABSON district Chair Shyam Sah.

Meanwhile, community schools in Rautahat have extended their vacation by four days. Earlier, the schools had announced holiday from January 1 to January 5 but due to the continuous falling temperature, the holiday was extended by four more days. “The schools will remain closed until January 10,” said District Education Officer Ram Binaya Singh.

Likewise, Gaur-based Gaurishankar Yadav Campus will remain closed until January 12 starting today, according to campus Chief Ramesh Sribastav.
