Bajhang man held for killing national bird

BAJURA: Police in Bajhang district on Tuesday arrested a man with a killedĀ "danphe" (Impeyan pheasant), the national bird.

The arrestee has been identified as Top Bahadur Bohora (22) of of Daulichaur VDC in Bajhang district.

Bohora was arrested after the Ward Police Office found the killed pheasant hidden in his bag at Chainpur, the district headquarters, according to Deputy Superintendent of police (DSP) Narendra Chand at District Police Office.

Bohora will be tried under the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act, said police.

It has been reported that the poaching of wildlife in the northern mountainous region inĀ  Bajhang district has risen rapidly following the snowfall every year in the past few years.

Moreover, the folks of Kanda, Surma, Daulichaur, Rilu, Dahabagar, Lekhgaun, Melbisauni and Kailash VDCs in the region become active in poaching wildlife as the fall in temperature and heavy snowfall force wild animals and birds to migrate to lower altitudes.
