Deuba confident UML will cooperate

Damauli, January 5

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba today said he was confident that the principal opposition CPN-UML would end the obstruction in the Parliament and pave the way for resumption of House proceedings after the recent Supreme Court verdict.

Speaking at the sixth Tanahun Festival in Damauli today, NC President Deuba said that the CPN-UML would be flexible about resuming House proceedings by ending the prolonged deadlock in the Parliament. “If House proceedings remain closed for a long time, it will create crisis in the country. Hence, the CPN-UML will support the tabling the statute amendment bill by holding dialogue and allowing House proceedings to resume,” said Deuba.

Stressing that the polls were a must for proper implementation of the constitution, he said the three levels of polls must be held within the stipulated time of 13 months. “Polls of the local, provincial and federal levels can safeguard federal democratic republicanism in the country. We can be the richest country in South Asia only if we can establish substantial peace across the country,” said Deuba.

Meanwhile, Deuba called on his party loyalists to prepare for the upcoming elections. “As the Nepali

Congress is the largest party in the country, it is ready to settle the internal problems facing the country,” argued Deuba, who is also a former prime minister.

Deuba claimed that the constitution amendment bill would be endorsed from the Parliament and it would address the concerns of the Madhesi community at any cost.
