Shootout at New Road

KATHMANDU: A couple on Sunday escaped a potential threat to life by a hair's breadth when a gang of two unidentified gunmen shot at them at 10:30 am at New Road. The couple -- Prakash Rajbhandari (30) and his wife Dipisa (22) -- from Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City-22, were on their way home from a jewellery shop at Indrachwok when the shooters targeted them. "The motive for the shootout was robbing gold ornaments as the couple was walking with a loaded bag," Inspector Tul Bahadur Karki, Janasewa Police, said. The suspects are absconding. Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Police Sector, Koteshwor, on Sunday found 12 rounds of live bullets designed for a 9mm pistol near Mahadevsthan.
