NEPALGUNJ: The indefinite Terai Bandh has taken its toll on the monetary sector as Nepal Rastra Bank, Nepalgunj branch has fallen short in issuing sufficient banknotes in the hilly and mountainous districts of the Mid and Far Western Development Regions.

Despite heavy demand for supply of banknotes by many banks in the region in the last couple of weeks, the issuance of the banknotes could not be worked out due to security reasons, the bank said.

The hilly districts of Salyan and Bajura are said to have faced a great deal of hurdles with a shortage of banknotes. If the problem persists for another two weeks, these districts would meet with grave economic crisis, sources said.
