Shortage of textbooks hits schools

Sankhuwasabha, August 11:

Four months into the new academic session, lower secondary and secondary schools in Sankhuwasabha district are still witnessing a shortage of textbooks.

Teachers are taking classes with the help of a single book, students said. Narayan Katwal, proprietor of Bijay Books, said even a single copy of Moral Education for grade VIII had not arrived in the district.

According to him, textbooks of Economics and Education for grade IX and X were also

unavailable. Local book dealers said books could not be brought because vehicular movement had been disrupted due to rain.

According to them, some 150 sets of textbooks for grade IX and 100 sets for grade X were lacking. There are 274 primary, 37 lower secondary and 44 secondary schools in Sankhuwasabha district.

There are around 19,000 students in the secondary level.
