KATHMANDU, JULY 29
A Nepali climber has scaled the world's second highest peak twice in just 24 hours making the most successful ascent of Mt K2 by an individual climber.
According to Iswari Paudel, Managing Director at Himalayan Guides, HG guide Siddhi Bahadur Tamang scaled K2 twice in just less than 24 hours making his total successful ascents on K2 to six.
"Siddhi scaled K2 on Sunday at around 10:00 am local time and returned to the base camp in the evening," Paudel said, adding that he again headed for the second summit push last night and successfully reached the summit point on Monday at around 6:30 am local time.
Siddhi, a renowned guide for the Himalayan Guides and Madison Mountaineering, now equalizes a record of the most ascent of K2 with Mingma Gyabu Sherpa, who also scaled K2 for the sixth time last year. This season, Siddhi was part of the Madison K2 Expedition team led by Garrett Madison. Garrett along with his clients also scaled K2 this morning.
According to climbing records, Siddhi from Dolakha scaled the 8,611-metre peak in 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023 and twice in 2024. Siddhi has climbed many peaks including Mt Everest 11 times.
