Silver worth Rs 57 lakh seized from Sarlahi

RAUTAHAT: Three persons with possession of one quintal silver have been arrested during a regular police check in Karmaiya of Sarlahi district along the East-West Highway on Monday night.

Police said they seized the silver with a current market value of Rs 5.7 million.

Sarlahi District Police Office said that a car (Ba 12 Cha 9433) heading to Harion of Sarlahi from Kathmandu was stopped by traffic police for a regular check to discover small pieces of silver in such a huge quantity.

SP Kedar Dhakal informed that the car driver Bal Bahadur Karki and two others, Mohan Thakur and Yugal Kishor Sah, have been arrested for further investigation.

All the three arrestees were made public at the District Traffic Office in Nawalpur of Sarlahi District.

Police Inspector Babu Raj Khadka said the preparation is underway to send the arrestees to the concerned Revenue Office for further investigation.

Meanwhile, Khadka suspected that it might be being smuggled to India taking the advantage of the ongoing turmoil in Tarai.
