Sitaula’s resignation demand flayed

Biratnagar, February 6:

Nepali Congress (NC) central member Dr Shekhar Koirala said Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula’s resignation could make it difficult to solve the Maoist problem. Seeking Home Minister’s resignation at the present context is meaningless, he said.

Speaking to journalists at his residence in Biratnagar today, Koirala said: “Home Minister’s resignation is not the solution of the present problem in the country. Moreover, there are lots of other problems, in addition to the demands forwarded by the Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum, that need to be sorted out. The Maoist problem is yet to be solved,” he said.

“It is not appropriate to demand the resignation of home minister everyday,” Koirala said. “NC central member Sujata Koirala should have not demanded Home Minister’s resignation but the issue could have been raised in the party meeting. She should not respond in a hurry,” he said.

Sujata, addressing a programme organised in capital a week ago, had demanded Home Minister Sitaula’s resignation.

“As all works including formation of interim government and constituent assembly polls are yet to be completed. The MJF should sit for dialogue and to go for CA poll,” he said.

Saying that dialogue should always be unconditional, he said: “Demands can be forwarded after joining the talks table.”

He also said that the demands forwarded by the MJF were genuine.
