Police have arrested six people from a shop in Butwal with counterfeit Nepali banknotes worth Rs 622,000 and equipment allegedly used to print fake currency.
According to Nepal Police, the arrests were made at a shop on Nepalgunj Road in Butwal Sub-metropolitan City-6, Rupandehi.
Those arrested are Ganga Kumari Purbachhane, 36, of Butwal-11, Rupandehi; Kiran Krishna Tiwari (Krishna) of Pokhara Metropolitan City-1, Kaski; Sanjay Tharu of Banganga Municipality-1, Kapilvastu; Ram Chandra Khatri, 41, of Changunarayan Municipality-1, Bhaktapur; Pasang Tamang, 38, of Shailung Rural Municipality-4, Dolakha; and Basumitra Anand, 49, a resident of Bhaktinagar Police Station area in Siliguri, West Bengal, India.
During searches of the shop and associated rooms, police seized 622 counterfeit Nepali Rs 1,000 notes, a photocopy machine, a Dell laptop, a printer, a carton of paper allegedly used for printing fake notes, a laminating machine, chemicals, plastic sheets, a note-cutting machine and six mobile phones.
Police said an investigation is underway under offences related to counterfeit currency.
