Six girls rescued from Nepal-Indo border point in Kapilvastu

JITPUR, KAPILVASTU: As many as six girls have been rescued from Maryadpur border point in Yashodhara Rural Municipality of Kapilvastu district on Sunday.

Police rescued the girls while they were en route to other countries via India after a middleman lured them with hopes of better employment opportunities.

Officials of the Armed Border Security Force said that the girls were rescued after a tip-off to police. Inspector of the Nepal Armed Police Force Amrit Dulal said the girls — two from Kapilvastu and four from other districts — were interrogated, and rescued later on.

Likewise, middleman Ganesh Khatri has been handed over to the Police Post in Maryadpur.

Local residents are of the view that trafficking of girls is taking place from this border point for lack of social organisations working against this issue in the area.
