Six houses gutted


TEHRATHUM: Six houses in Chuhandanda -5 in Ghodetar in the district were destroyed when a wildfire spread into a human settlement on Saturday. According to Pasang Yonjan, a local teacher, the fire from the Ghodetar Community Forest had spread in the village and engulfed houses of Nima Chhiring Lama, Mahendra Lama, Som Bahadur Tamang, Buddhiman Tamang, Yam Bahadur Lama and Palden Lama. They could not save their properties as the fire took place at 12 noon. Locals, however, brought the fire under control after four hours. The fire victims are now compelled to live under tents. Pritam Raj Bhattarai, DSP, District Police Office, Tehrathum, said, details of the loss were yet to be received. According to Abichandra Ghising, secretary, Ghodetar Community Forest Consumers' Committee, the wildfire broke out when workers constructing the Pushpalal Mid-hill Highway set fire in a bush.
