Six involved in land scam remanded to judicial custody

Gaighat, July 12

Udayapur District Court has remanded six persons, including a government employee, to judicial custody for their involvement in a land fraud case.

Harimaya Shahi of Triyuga Municipality, Land Survey Office Udayapur surveyor Shivachandra Thakur, document writer Hari Prasad Dhungana, along with locals Shiva Prasad Dahal, his son Buddhi Prasad Dahal and Nepal Dangol of Bhaktapur were sent to custody by a single bench of district judge Tirtharaj KC yesterday.

They were arrested in connection with a fraudulent land deal.

Shiva Prasad and his son had managed to sell a roadside land plot, under the ambit of the road, to Dangol by showing the land was theirs. Police had filed a fraud case against them, accusing them of being involved in illegal transaction of government property.

A few months ago road authorities had expropriated seven kathha 18 dhur land in the then Gaighat Municipality belonging to the Dahals adjoining Sagarmatha Highway for the purpose of road upgradation. Official formalities of the transfer of ownership to the government had been pending.

The Dahals seized the opportunity and tricked Dangol by selling him the land, under the ambit of the road, as their own. Dangol had purchased the land for Rs 12.72 million.
